“Mirrors” is a body of work that combines elements of shadow, light and an intense spectrum of colors. All the artworks share common components which are the use of black to create shadow, the use of white to create a common central “mirror” reflecting light, and a range of colors focused on intensely saturated hues.
The concept behind mirrors is about the contradiction present in everything. Light and shadow are concepts previously explored in collections like Ascend and Descend, and Mirrors wants to combine those two into new forms containing both darkness and light as a paradox.
The rectangular portal-like light in the middle of each piece represents the mirror, while the gradient angles enable some sort of illusory movement. The intense colors merge with the black to create more shade into the gradients, and merge with the white to create lighter hues moving out of the mirror. This contradiction allows the artworks to reflect both feelings of intensity and lightness, both ascension and the sense of being absorbed into the piece.
All the artworks were recreated using code, and initially created manually by the artist, so every piece is intentional with the choice of color and geometry.
